ABOUT Youth tourism trainings

Why is it important to change the future of Youth Tourism?

Digital Media and Social Media platforms have fundamentally changed the channels we use to do business. In many ways it has removed barriers of entry into tourism for Youth in Tourism. Business has become fluid, interruptive and rapidly progressive.

NETWORKING & CONTENT BUILDING

Building content that is relevant and current for your destination is vital but requires building relationships and networks that can spread the cost of influencers and content creators.

BOOKING PLATFORMS & WEBSITES

Digital booking platforms and advanced communications will almost completely replace traditional coms over the coming years. Websites need to be adaptive and fully integrated into these systems. Change your business to be part of this.

SOCIAL MEDIA STATISTICS

OUR CRAZY sustainability Plan

Many of our Youth Tourism establishments and operators have been at the forefront of sustainable and ethichcal choices in tourism for decades.

Youth in Tourism have lead the way for projects like the WESSA Green Coast Tourism Stewards. This training will be the first of its kind in South Africa and possible one of the first of its kind on the continent. The venue runs completely on an off grid solar system that will power all 5 days. Months of preparation have lead to system being in place where very few single use plastics will be used in catering for this event. Those used will be upcycled into ecobricks. The venue has an advanced water system that cleans all black and grey water to be used in gardens and up to 90% can be reused in flush systems. 5 000 Spekboom cuttings will be planted before and after the event to offset the 5 days of the event. Further Spekboom plants will be available if you want to offset your personal travel to and from the event.

Directions - How to get to Lubanzi

GPS COORDINATES: S32 04 04.7 - E29 05 09.6 - 38 m
ALERT: Your GPS mostly gives the shortest route, not the fastest - which in our case can mean 50km of terrible gravel road instead of 80km of tar road. If you are coming from the N2, East London OR Durban direction, ALWAYS turn onto the Coffee Bay road to get to Lubanzi, no matter what your GPS may suggest.

Download a roadmap here.

From the N2, take the Coffee Bay turn off (about 20km from Mthatha). Follow the road for about 50km until you see the BIG sign to Zithulele Mission Hospital/Hole in the Wall. Turn right onto the tar road. Follow the road for about 17km. Turn right onto a dirt road about 1km before the hospital. There is a big square silver water tank on stilts at that corner, and immediately afterward a shop called Emthunzini Store. If you have missed the turn off, just turn around at the hospital, drive back for about 2min and take the first road on your left. Follow the road for 5km. (The road has been graded and is currently driveable even by small cars, though still a bit bumpy over the last bit. And please arrive by daylight! It's a bit difficult to manage the road in the dark.) Just before the beach, about 3/4 down the last hill, turn left towards Wild Lubanzi Backpackers.
